I had been losing weight over the last year fairly steadily as a result of better eating habits, (I even went from meat lovers to pepperoni only pizza – we’re talking big sacrifices here) and using the fitness tracker on my Samsung Galaxy phone to make sure I was walking a minimum of 6000 steps a day.
NOTE: For me, walking outside really helps stick with the program, as evidenced by my mint condition $1500 Motorcycle Helmet Stand:
I had dropped about 20 pounds in the last six months, but I had also hit a serious brick wall and could not seem to break through and drop any more weight. A buddy of mine, after hearing about my difficulties, sent me some “skinny coffee” as he called it – and since I generally head directly to the coffee maker as my first order of business every morning, I thought even if it doesn’t work – its FREE COFFEE. Count me in.
So I ended up with a couple boxes of coffee which contained little ready-to-go packets similar to the crystal light packets I keep on hand for flavored water.
Having been a frequently optimistic, yet continuously disappointed user of practically every diet shake on the market, I steeled myself for the first dose on a Tuesday morning, a carefully placed glass of orange juice close by to kill the aftertaste, just in case.
It tasted like… coffee. I am a cream n’ sugar guy, thank you very much, and it actually tasted better than the bulk folgers I get at Costco. Confession: I am not a coffee connoisseur – I am all about the caffeine. Period.
Resisting my ADD Fueled desire to weigh myself every morning, I patiently waited until Monday morning (just couldn’t make it a full week) for the first weigh-in. Result – I had lost 2.6 pounds. Another side note: when you are trying to lose weight, I highly recommend digital scales because every two-tenths is a little victory after all.
First thought – Hmmmm. I did not remember consciously trying to eat less during the week.
Second Thought – I still have the diet chocolate jello pudding cups in my fridge that I bought last week. (three of which make a nice snack) This means my ever present late evening cravings may have been less powerful than usual.
Third thought – if this works again next week, I need to see about buying some stock in this company. Ooooh boy, rich and thin – I can see it now!
So, my second week weighin results? Down 1.8 pounds. See how the tenths make a better story here? One pound just does not sound that great does it?
My observations: There is something in this coffee that curbs cravings and makes you feel full faster. For the first time I can remember I only ate half of one of my favorite Stauffer’s lasagna frozen dinners.
My mood has improved. I can’t put my finger on it, and it may just be from optimism that the weight loss will continue, but I feel different. I can only see in retrospect that I was beginning to turn down invitations to events and dinner parties. My evenings were becoming more and more just me and my kindle.
Now I feel more… engaged? Peppy?
Not sure what word to use but there is a noticeable difference.
