After her mother went into labor this week, a 9-year-old girl stepped in to help. ABC News reports Alyssa Meza delivered her baby sister on her own once her mother felt the baby was about to be born. Alyssa, from Chicago, said that she told her mom to “push the baby out” and she would catch it. “She got scared, and I caught the baby, grabbed the towel and wrapped her around,” she explained. As if that isn’t brave enough for a girl that’s not yet 10, Alyssa also unraveled the umbilical cord wrapped around her new sister’s neck.

She told Chicago news station WLS-TV that she learned how to do that from a medical TV a show. “I had to unwrap it a little, and I ran next door to grab my neighbor because the baby was a little purple,” Alyssa said. The neighbor then called 911. Alyssa’s mother, Monique Meza, and the newborn girl were taken to the hospital. See Full Story
