The man shot in the head on the night of July 23rd, allegedly by his 15-year-old son, died last night at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
The attempted murder charge placed against Scottie Bailey Jr. is expected to be amended to criminal homicide in Juvenile Court.
Scottie Bailey Sr., 46, was found in the bedroom of his 3324 Cocoa Drive home suffering from a gunshot wound to the forehead. Officers arrived at the residence just after 10 p.m. on July 23rd in response to a 911 call placed by Bailey Jr. His account of what happened evolved during the night. He ultimately said that he went into his father’s bedroom to look at a gun in the dresser. Bailey Jr. said the pistol accidentally fired, striking his father in the forehead. He said he then took a shower, changed clothes, cleaned his room, and drove to Antioch to visit a friend. He did not call authorities for help for more than three hours. The pistol believed to have been used was found in the console of a vehicle.
