Madison Precinct detectives are charging Ronald L. Kirby, 62, of Antioch, with attempted criminal homicide and three counts of aggravated assault for shooting his ex-boss in the face this morning inside Resolution Incorporated on Darbytown Drive off Dickerson Pike. Ronald Francis, 59, is being treated at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. His condition is not life threatening.
Officers responded to a shooting call at the business at 9:53 a.m. By that time Kirby, who had reportedly done work for Resolution in years past and continued to stop by on occasion, had shot Francis in the face after telling the receptionist he needed to see him. Another employee in the business was also armed and shot at Kirby. During the gunfire, employee John Entwistle, 51, received a minor ricochet wound to his chin. He was taken to Skyline Medical Center for treatment.
Witnesses in the area told first responding officers that Kirby had fled the building on foot (his SUV was still in the Resolution parking lot) and was seen entering a neighboring Dollar General Store. That store was evacuated as SWAT officers assembled at the scene. As SWAT officers cleared the storage room of the store, all the while announcing their presence, Kirby verbally let them know he was there. He was taken into custody without incident. Kirby’s pistol was recovered beside him.
Kirby was taken to the Madison Precinct, where he refused to answer detectives’ questions.
