Industry program recognizes employees who provide extraordinary customer service
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The hospitality industry has named Steven Whitson of Fontanel Mansion and Melvin Singleton of Sheraton Nashville Downtown as Music City Hitmakers for the months of August and September for their excellent customer service to Nashville visitors.
The Music City Hitmakers program honors those individuals who go above and beyond in providing extraordinary service to ensure an authentic Music City experience. The program encourages Nashville visitors to nominate individuals who provide the truest southern hospitality during their stay.
“Nashville has received so many wonderful accolades and media attention in recent years, but without the hard work and dedication of our frontline industry employees, we would not be where we are today,” said Pam Wright, chair of the Music City Hitmakers and president of Wright Travel. “These nominations in particular show that no matter how big or small, an act of kindness goes a long way in the eyes of our visitors.”
As tour guide at Fontanel Mansion, Steven Whitson’s desire to entertain, ability to make each person feel welcome, and immense knowledge of Nashville truly impressed a couple of first-time visitors from Colorado. Prior to the tour, Steven greeted every visitor by name and took the time to learn a little bit about them. One of the participants was in a wheelchair and he personally guided her wheelchair throughout the tour. He highlighted many things to do and see in the area and was able to talk about many famous musical performances at the Grand Ole Opry. The guest wrote “[Whitson’s] warmth and hospitality were welcoming and friendly and it really showcased the warm and gentle spirit of the people here in Tennessee.”
A first-time visitor from Florida nominated Melvin Singleton for being so friendly and welcoming at the hotel’s breakfast. She writes, “Everyone loves Melvin. He’s a man with a kind heart and a big smile.” The visitor was amazed to learn that Melvin wakes up at 3:30 a.m. every morning to walk to the Sheraton, where he has been serving breakfast to the concierge crowd for many years.
As Music City Hitmakers, the monthly winners will each receive a lapel pin distinguishing him as Hitmaker, a $100 restaurant gift card, and a certificate of recognition. Additionally, the winners will be eligible for the annual Hitmaker award presented each May during National Travel & Tourism Week to one of the monthly winners who has received the greatest accolades throughout the year.
