The squad worked out for a slightly more than an hour in an intense, competitive workout. The offense and defense battled through a high-energy team period with both sides of the ball taking turns on top. The defense emerged on top, however, breaking up passes and closing down running lanes. Senior Nifae Lealao stood out again, causing havoc in the backfield on both passing and running plays. Freshman Michael Owusu made an impressive play while covering tight end Jared Pinkney, knocking away a pass at the last minute. Jamauri Wakefield’s hard run up the middle found the end zone to get the offense back ont track. The offense had the last word though as Kyle Shurmur found CJ Duncan on a crossing route with the senior sneaking into the corner of the end zone for a score.
Head coach Derek Mason praised the team for their high energy following the workout.
The back-and-forth between the offense and defense continued into the final 7-on-7 drills of the day. Shurmur found Pinkney in the back corner of the end zone with the sophomore going up high to haul in the pass for a score. Moments later, Emmanuel Smith picked off a pass near the end zone.
The Dores put full pads back on tomorrow afternoon for the first time since Saturday’s scrimmage.
