Head coach Derek Mason led the Commodores through a nearly 90-minute practice on Wednesday afternoon on the John Rich practice fields.
For the second day in a row the offense turned in a solid effort, particularly in the passing game with QB Kyle Shurmur. The junior routinely found Trent Sherfield, CJ Duncan, Kalija Lipscomb and Jackson Winrowthroughout the day in drills. During the full team session, a pair of freshmen showed up in big ways with DB Tae Daley forcing a fumble and RB Jamauri Wakefield breaking off a long run down the left sideline on the very next play.
“Today, they gave me exactly what we needed,” Mason said following the squad’s ninth preseason practice.
The practice schedule on Wednesday included lots of team drills covering several different situations. The team worked on tempo and third down situations before finishing the day in a two-minute situation.
The Dores return to the practice field tomorrow afternoon with an eye on Saturday’s scrimmage.
