Autumn Newby leads Commodores with career-high 30 points
NASHVILLE — Vanderbilt rallied from an early 21-point deficit but could not complete the comeback in a 74-71 loss to North Alabama on Tuesday at Memorial Gymnasium.
The two teams traded baskets late in the fourth quarter before Vanderbilt’s Chelsie Hall missed a 3-pointer with 22 seconds left as the Dores trailed 71-69. On the ensuing possession, the Lions’ Wallen Ivy hit two free throws to give North Alabama a 73-69 lead with 16 seconds left. The Lions held on from there.
Vanderbilt sophomore forward Autumn Newby scored a career-high 30 points and added 10 rebounds in the loss.
